BTK announced the applications with the most internet traffic in Turkey. YouTube emerged as the platform causing by far the most internet consumption in Turkey.
According to the BTK report, media streaming platforms constitute the vast majority (65.8 percent) of total internet traffic in Turkey. This is followed by web browsing at 14.7 percent, instant messaging at 5.4 percent, and online gaming at 3.3 percent.
Applications with the Most Internet Traffic
When looking at platforms with the highest internet consumption regardless of category, YouTube ranked first, followed by Instagram and TikTok.
Most Used Media Streaming Platforms
In the Media Streaming category, YouTube generated the most internet traffic with 57.2 percent, followed by Instagram with 16.8 percent and TikTok with 6.1 percent. Netflix, with a 5.9 percent traffic share in the media streaming category, became the digital content platform consuming the most traffic.
Most Used Messaging Applications
In the instant messaging category, Instagram accounted for 64.1 percent of internet traffic, Facebook for 15.2 percent, WhatsApp for 10.9 percent, and Telegram for 7.4 percent. The mere 3.5 percent difference between WhatsApp and Telegram was surprising.
For voice or video calling applications over the internet, WhatsApp ranked first with 55.9 percent. It was followed by Facebook with 11.5 percent and FaceTime with 10.4 percent.
Steam Leads in Gaming
When examining traffic consumption in the online gaming category, Steam took the lead with a 35.6 percent share, followed by PlayStation with 21.9 percent, Epic Games with 9 percent, and Xbox with 5.3 percent.
iCloud Far Ahead in Cloud Storage Platforms
When analyzing the traffic consumption of cloud-based storage platforms, iCloud significantly outperformed its rivals with a 64 percent share, followed by Google Cloud with 6.8 percent and Google Photos with 5.7 percent.
