Microsoft takes a historic step: Classic Xbox games are officially coming to PC

Microsoft is officially bringing original Xbox games to the Windows platform by expanding its Xbox backward compatibility program. In the initial phase, four classic titles will be available to PC users. It has also been announced that more Xbox games will come to PC in the future.

Four classic games released in the first phase

As part of an early preview, Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy have become playable on PC. The games can be purchased and downloaded individually, and they have also been included in Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.

Users who previously owned the digital versions of these games will be able to play them on Windows computers and portable Xbox devices like Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X without any additional cost.

System requirements announced

These games are also receiving various technical improvements as they come to the PC platform. According to the information shared, VSync support, up to 4x resolution upscaling, anisotropic filtering, improved anti-aliasing, and full-screen and windowed modes have been added to the games.

Regarding system requirements, it was stated that most Windows computers would be able to run classic Xbox games. The announced minimum system requirements are as follows:

• Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 950, AMD Radeon RX 550, Intel UHD 770 or Intel Arc A310
• Processor: Intel Core i3-8100, AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or AMD Ryzen Z2 A
• Memory: 8 GB RAM
• Operating system: Windows 11

More Xbox games to come to PC

This move by Microsoft will not be a one-time event. Jason Ronald, Vice President of Xbox New Generation, stated that this is a long-term plan, and efforts to preserve old Xbox games and bring them to the PC platform over time will continue.

Meanwhile, the next-generation Project Helix Xbox console will also be able to play PC games. Additionally, Microsoft is working on a "disc-to-digital" feature that will allow Xbox owners to digitize their existing physical game collections in preparation for future Xbox consoles.
