Hyundai's most popular representative in the compact SUV segment, the Tucson, is preparing to hit the roads with its completely renewed generation. The new generation Tucson, caught testing in camouflage near Hyundai's Namyang R&D center in South Korea, kept its exterior design a mystery but revealed its interior for the first time.
The published spy images show that the popular SUV will both move up a class in terms of size and undergo a revolutionary change in cabin technology.
Pushing C-SUV Boundaries
The new Tucson, photographed next to a previous generation Kia Sorento while parked, proves a noticeable increase in size. While the current Tucson is approximately 4.5 meters long, the Sorento was around 4.8 meters.
The extended wheelbase and larger body of the new generation Tucson indicate that it will offer enormous legroom in the rear seats and a much larger trunk volume.
Cabin Revolution: Pleos Infotainment System and Physical Buttons
While the boxy exterior design and wild LED lighting were hidden under camouflage, the cabin was almost completely revealed.
The biggest change in the interior is the gigantic Pleos multimedia screen placed in the center of the console. This tablet-like structure, which appears even larger than the 14.6-inch optional screen in the Elantra, rivals Hyundai's top-tier models.
However, the most pleasing detail is that Hyundai did not succumb to the touch-only craze and placed physical climate and media controls below the screen. On the driver's side, there is an independent digital instrument panel familiar from the Elantra and Grandeur models.
Surprising Detail: Is the Traditional Gear Lever Returning?
The most surprising detail in the interior was the classic, thick gear lever located on the center console. Considering that gear operations in current Tucson models are performed with buttons or a control stalk behind the steering wheel, this traditional gear lever in the prototype raised curiosity. It is not yet clear whether this setup is exclusive to entry-level packages or a temporary solution for the test vehicle.
Additionally, the cabin features a dual wireless charging unit, large cup holders, 60:40 split-folding rear seats, and a redesigned steering wheel.
When Will It Hit the Roads?
The official launch of the new Hyundai Tucson is expected in South Korea in the coming months, with its arrival in global markets and Turkey anticipated in 2027. Immediately after, the renewed version of its platform sibling, the Kia Sportage, will make its debut.
