A new phase is being entered in Turkey's Deposit-Bearing Packaging (DOA) System, which was implemented on July 1st, aiming to eliminate many complaints. The Mobile DOA service is being launched, allowing markets, grocery stores, and kiosks without deposit return machines to join the system.
What is Mobile DOA?
Mobile DOA will be a new system enabling markets, grocery stores, and kiosks without deposit return machines to join the DOA system and collect returns. Businesses registered with the system will serve as Manual Return Points using handheld terminals called Mobile DOA. This will allow businesses like markets, grocery stores, and kiosks to participate in the DOA System as Manual Return Points without needing additional machine investment or a large space. Citizens will be able to hand over DOA-logoed bottles to store officials at these points.
How to Use the Mobile DOA System?
- In the Mobile DOA system, business officials will generate QR codes using handheld terminals.
- Citizens will initiate the return process by scanning this QR code using the DOA mobile application.
- Business officials will scan and register DOA-logoed packaging using handheld terminal devices.
- Upon completion of the return, 1 TL will be refunded to the citizen's DOA wallet account for each package.
- In addition to citizens, businesses will also earn 50 kuruş for each package.
No Change in Deposit Return Earnings, Additional Incentive for Shopkeepers
Citizens will continue to earn 1 TL from up to 200 packages daily, just as with deposit return machines. The Mobile DOA system will provide additional income not only to citizens but also to participating businesses. Markets, grocery stores, and kiosks will receive an incentive payment of 50 kuruş for each package they hand over to authorized field operators. Businesses can apply to join the system at https://dbys.gov.tr.
Nurullah Öztürk, President of the Turkish Environment Agency, stated that Mobile DOA will play a significant role in expanding the system:
“With Mobile DOA, we will enable markets, grocery stores, and kiosks without Deposit Return Machines to easily join the return network. A 1 TL incentive fee for each package returned by our citizens will be directly transferred to their DOA Wallet, while our businesses will earn a 50 kuruş incentive fee for each package they hand over to the field operator. Our goal is to create a strong and widespread system where our citizens do not have to travel long distances to return their packaging, with accessible return points in every neighborhood. With Mobile DOA, we will make our shopkeepers an active part of this transformation, making our return network more accessible, efficient, and inclusive across Turkey.”
