Turkey continues to break new records in electricity generation. While high production in solar and wind energy stood out in July, solar energy achieved its highest-ever monthly production. A new monthly record was also broken in electricity generation from domestic sources.
According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, a total of 34.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was generated from all energy sources in Turkey in July. The largest share in production, at 26.2%, belonged to hydroelectric power plants (HPPs).
Having broken a monthly production record in June, solar energy further surpassed this record in July. 5.37 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated from solar power plants (SPPs), reaching an all-time high monthly production level. Solar energy alone thus met 15.5% of Turkey's total electricity generation.
A daily production record for solar energy was also broken in July. On July 19, 189,680 megawatt-hours of electricity were generated, reaching the highest daily level ever for solar energy.
The rise in solar energy was accompanied by wind energy. A total of 4.16 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was generated from wind power plants throughout July. A new daily record for wind was also broken on July 30, with 265,512 megawatt-hours of daily production.
Another record in July came from domestic sources. Turkey generated 24.75 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from domestic sources in July. This figure marked the highest monthly electricity production from domestic sources ever recorded.
Electricity generated from renewable sources also constituted a significant portion of the total production. In July, 20.14 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated from renewable energy sources. Thus, the share of renewable sources in total electricity production reached 58.2%.
Record Production in the First 7 Months
Record levels were also observed in renewable energy sources during the first 7 months of the year. Between January 1 and July 31, 66.1 billion kilowatt-hours were generated from hydroelectric sources, 25.6 billion kilowatt-hours from wind, and 24.6 billion kilowatt-hours from solar energy. All three of these sources reached their highest production levels for the same period since 2000.
