Dyson, a company known for its innovative products across various sectors, is now redesigning oral care. At today's event, Dyson introduced the Dyson CameraJet, its first camera-equipped toothbrush that combines brushing and interdental cleaning in a single device, scanning gaps and cleaning plaque with a water jet.
How much does the Dyson CameraJet cost?
The company's innovative oral care device, the Dyson CameraJet, has gone on sale in Turkey as part of a special set priced at 24,999 TL. The set, called the Dyson Dental System, includes the Dyson CameraJet toothbrush, a charging station, a travel case, Dyson Toothpaste, and Dyson Mouthwash. It is available in two color options: Ceramic Ultra Blue and Ceramic Pink.
Automatically Detects Dental Gaps and Cleans Plaque with a Water Jet
The camera and AI-powered sensors on the Dyson CameraJet detect dental gaps during brushing and clean between teeth with a water jet. This makes oral care much more practical by performing interdental cleaning simultaneously with brushing.
The device, a product of six years of R&D, houses a 100,000-pixel macro lens camera in its body. This lens, which scans at 28 frames per second, communicates directly with the Gap Optical Targeting algorithm, trained with 470,000 dental images. The AI instantly detects gaps between teeth during brushing and sends a water jet to that exact spot within 100 milliseconds.
Protects Gums and Enamel
The CameraJet also innovates in the water jet's flow pattern for cleaning between teeth. Instead of the needle-type jets commonly preferred in electric oral irrigators, Dyson uses a conical jet water flow that targets a wider area. The company states that this design operates at lower pressure, reducing stress on gums and enamel while cleaning plaque from a broader surface.
The device also features a 12.5 ml mouthwash reservoir. This reservoir is said to defy gravity. The system, which uses a diaphragm pump and pressure chamber, is designed to ensure continuous water flow even when the device is held at different angles. There is no interruption in water flow when held horizontally for cleaning the back surfaces of teeth.
What Technologies Are Used in the Brush?
On the brush side, a head with two different bristle structures is used. Harder inner bristles focus on cleaning surface stains, while softer outer bristles focus on cleaning along the gum line.
The brush head has its own RFID tag that determines when the head was attached and how many cleanings it has performed, alerting the user when it's time for a replacement. When a new brush head is attached, the cycle restarts. The product range also includes a sensitive brush head option designed to be even gentler for users with sensitive teeth and gums.
Dyson engineers have also introduced a difference in toothbrush movements. It was found that in the movement of existing sonic toothbrush heads in the industry, some bristles could get stuck in the tooth, especially in hard-to-reach areas, and lose their motion. Dyson's new oscillation technology changes the oscillation angle during brushing, ensuring that the bristles remain in constant motion and helping to prevent them from stopping. Independent tests have shown that Dyson removes up to 69% more plaque compared to leading premium electric toothbrushes on the market.
The device also features 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Live camera feed, guided cleaning, coverage map, and personalized feedback features can be used via the MyDyson app. Dyson states that camera images are not stored on the device or in the cloud. The camera is only active during live viewing or automatic water jet cleaning. By monitoring the camera feed, you can track the cleanliness between teeth and monitor for tooth decay.
Dyson's Non-Foaming Toothpaste and Low-Foaming Mouthwash Technology
Dyson has developed a special toothpaste and mouthwash to ensure the effective operation of the camera that detects interdental spaces in the Dyson CameraJet. The special SLS-free toothpaste provides hygienic tooth cleaning without foam. The low-foaming mouthwash also protects the CameraJet's camera. Its antibacterial formula is designed to help reduce odor-causing bacteria and freshen breath, while glycerin water helps prevent dry mouth and leaves a smooth, moist feeling in the mouth.
Both the toothpaste and mouthwash contain sodium fluoride, which helps strengthen tooth enamel and fortify teeth, as well as phosphates and xylitol, which target the bacterial source of plaque and tartar. The mouthwash and toothpaste will be offered in three varieties: Mint, Spearmint, and Ginger. Each has been developed to match in harmony, creating a non-dominant, balanced, and refreshing clean feeling when combined in the mouth. The spearmint toothpaste is formulated for sensitive teeth. The non-foaming toothpaste and low-foaming mouthwash are sold for 499 TL.
