SAIC-Volkswagen, continuing the sedan-bodied Passat tradition in the Chinese market, has launched the updated Passat Pro. The new sedan, released as a 2027 model, stands out with its rich equipment package, special launch discounts, and a lifetime engine warranty offered to initial buyers.
While the base list price of the new Passat Pro was originally set at 172,000 yuan, the vehicle can be purchased starting from 139,900 yuan (approximately $20,800) with special launch discounts. Volkswagen also made a remarkable gesture to the first buyers of the new Passat Pro.
Lifetime Engine and Transmission Warranty
First buyers of the new Passat Pro are offered a lifetime warranty covering the engine and transmission, provided it's for non-commercial use and maintained at authorized service centers. The stylish sedan comes with familiar engine options. The standard 1.5-liter turbo engine produces 160 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, while the more powerful 2.0-liter turbo engine delivers 220 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.
Both engine options are offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Volkswagen engineers state that improvements have enhanced the Passat Pro's driving dynamics and road holding, while also increasing driving comfort.
Exterior Design Touches
Largely retaining the design of its predecessor, the new Passat Pro keeps its Matrix LED headlights with automatic high-beam dimming. The refreshed grille with darkened patterns stands out at the front, and aerodynamic improvements are said to reduce cabin noise, especially at highway speeds.
While traditional door handles are retained in the exterior design, new wheel designs and an illuminated Volkswagen logo positioned between the two taillights at the rear are notable features.
Three-Screen Cockpit in Top Trim
In the top trim level of the Passat Pro, the digital instrument cluster is complemented by a 15-inch central touchscreen and a dedicated 11.6-inch independent screen for the front passenger. In addition to the updated multimedia system, features include a 360-degree surround view camera, 10 airbags, an electric tailgate, an advanced sound system, an enhanced braking system, and a driver fatigue detection system.
The Passat Pro also features semi-autonomous driving technologies utilizing radar and sensors. The system offers automatic emergency braking, traffic jam assist, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control that operates across the full speed range.
