Xiaomi has shared the first official images of the Xiaomi 18 Fold model ahead of its autumn event. The design, screen sizes, and some important features of the foldable phone, which we had previously seen through leaks, have thus been confirmed. With the new model, Xiaomi plans to offer a different form factor between large book-style foldable phones and more compact devices.
What will the Xiaomi 18 Fold offer?
According to the video released by Xiaomi, the 18 Fold will feature a 5.38-inch cover screen and a 7.58-inch foldable main screen. On the rear of the phone, there is a horizontally positioned camera module. This section houses three cameras and an LED flash. The company also shared images of the device's internal design. It was confirmed that Leica collaborated on the development of the camera system.
Xiaomi defines the new form factor as "mid-fold," meaning a medium-sized foldable design. The aim of this approach is to combine the large screen advantage of existing large-screen foldable phones with a more compact body. According to the company, large foldable models offer a wide workspace when unfolded, but users mostly turn to the external screen for daily use. Smaller models, while providing portability advantages, come with some limitations in screen experience. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is positioned between these two form factors.
Xring O3 processor and LPDDR6 memory
It has also been confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Fold will be powered by the company's self-developed Xring O3 processor. The processor recently appeared in the Geekbench database. The new foldable phone is also expected to come with the Surge OS 4 operating system and utilize Xiaomi's MiMo artificial intelligence model running on the device.
Xiaomi also announced that it has developed a new "dragon bone" hinge for the device. Additionally, a new simulation-based testing system is being used to evaluate the durability of the foldable structure. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is also expected to be one of the first phones to use CXMT's new LPDDR6 memory.
Xiaomi will officially unveil the 18 Fold at its event on September 7th. The event is also expected to see the announcement of the Xiaomi N70 Pro, N70 Max, N90 Max, and Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max models. The Pad 9 Pro Max is also said to be powered by the Xring O3 processor.
