Waymo Robotaxis Coming to Germany in 2027

Waymo Robotaxis Coming to Germany in 2027

Waymo is preparing to expand its autonomous driving technology to more countries in Europe. The company, operating under Alphabet, plans to launch a robotaxi service in Munich, Germany. The company's first commercial service within the European Union is targeted to begin by late 2027.

Mapping and Testing Process Begins

Waymo will begin deploying its robotaxis on the streets of Munich in the coming weeks. During this phase, the vehicles will be operated manually to map the city's roads and surroundings. Following this, the autonomous driving system of the vehicles will be evaluated through tests with safety drivers behind the wheel.

Waymo plans to initially open the service to a limited number of users after obtaining the necessary permits, and then make it available to all passengers. Waymo states it is working closely with the relevant regulatory bodies and aims for commercial service by late 2027.

It Will Be Its Second Stop in Europe

The Munich move is part of Waymo's expansion plans in Europe. The company is expected to launch its commercial robotaxi service in London in 2026. Germany will be Waymo's second country of operation in Europe following this plan.

The expansion of commercial operations will continue without slowing down. Following these countries, operations are also expected to begin in France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
