Samsung may have changed its processor plans for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The company has reportedly started re-evaluating Exynos alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
It has been revealed that Samsung has made a significant change regarding the processor for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which is expected to be introduced in 2027. According to reports from South Korea, the company initially planned to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 in all markets but began working on a different strategy after the results shown by the Exynos 2700 in internal tests.
Exynos May Return to the Ultra Series
According to claims, Samsung Mobile Experience (MX) and System LSI divisions are working together to develop a version of the Galaxy S27 Ultra that uses the Exynos 2700. Additionally, it is stated that Samsung will secure production capacity to meet the Exynos 2700 supply needed for its flagship model.
If the plan comes to fruition, the regional processor differentiation will restart for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Accordingly, Galaxy S27 Ultra models sold in the US are expected to use Snapdragon, while models in South Korea and Europe will use Exynos 2700. This situation will mark a return for Samsung's Ultra series after a long hiatus.
For those who missed it, the last Ultra model from the company with an Exynos processor was the Galaxy S22 Ultra. After that date, regional processor selection was not made for Galaxy S Ultra models. One of the striking aspects of these claims is that the Exynos 2700 option emerged at a very late stage. The Snapdragon version of the Galaxy S27 Ultra was largely complete.
Currently, the Exynos 2700 is expected to be produced using Samsung's improved SF2P 2 nm manufacturing process. This production technology was previously shared to offer 26% lower power consumption and 15% higher clock speeds compared to previous solutions. Furthermore, the processor change will not be limited to just the Ultra model. The Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, and the expected Galaxy S27 Pro models in the series are also said to be split between Snapdragon and Exynos processors depending on the market.
No major design changes are expected for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. According to CAD-based render images, the phone's overall dimensions will be quite similar to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, there will be a new design for the rear camera island. Finally, Samsung is expected to remove the 10 MP 3x telephoto camera and give more emphasis to the 50 MP 5x telephoto camera in the system. Additionally, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will have a higher capacity battery compared to its predecessor.
